Are there plans to demolish the buildings on the South side of the bridge and create a through route – or are drivers obliged to turn off coming fromthe Law society???

Maybe a fleet of Michael O’Leary financed Taxi plates (he has one for evcery occasion you know) could ferry his passengers to a makeshift terminal onthe outskirts of the airport – while the rest of us get on with it all – well either that or Seamus Brennan should fire every single member of Aer rianta’s Board for being so publicy antagonistic – god I can’t wait for the attempted breakup of CIE –
“Tara St station to get’s second green light for parallel redevelopment – CIE say the provision of two platforms will give DART operators twice the fun choosing which one to stop at (assuming services are still running) – and enliven the commute home for weary workers at the end of the day as they helplessly dash from station platform to station platform. A spokesperson for CIE said that plans are also at an advanced stage fro a second more ‘rollercoaster-style’ railservice to run alongside the exisiting Dublin – Cork route”

    Cue Seamus Brennan…

Who has just informed Aer Rianta not to go ahead with any extensions without his say so.

Who exactly runs our country??? Our transport infrastructure to be more exact. Sounds like Aer Rianta are making a last gasp to show their authority and to size up the “real” second terminal (the private one).

Great comments Simon. I guess it’s easy for all of us on the outside to make the obvious snide remarks.

What a great time to be working there!

I think Central Bank is perfect where it is. Stephenson’s work was (I’ll have to use past tense) so confrontational – and bang there it is. Wood Qy is overkill though.

I guess the guy and his commissions faded with Charlie, huh?

Yeah – but I thought it best not to open a thread with CJH being mentioned!!!

Nancy Hands kills this place in terms of trade at all times of the day – so I guess they were trying stuff out to compete.

It’s probably one of the worst ventilated pubs in Ireland and has really thick acrid air about it at times (it’s the ciggies dontcha know) – surely this can’t be good for a listed interior???

I don’t think it’s an upsurge… as long as I can remember Dublin has always had this much puke on the pavements (ahhh – the joys of walking to work in the spring!).

Lads, I think by moaning about the litter you’re trying to fight the tide – this is IRELAND and most people are obviously happy to have O’Connell St (or any other main publin area) looking the way they do (what other explanation is there?). Imagine the fun they have looking down at new paving as the gum drops from their mouths, or checking out a modern style bin as the litter gets left between the railings!
As for fast food joints – charging extra wont make a difference – if you’ve been drinking in dublin all evening – you’re used to rip off prices – what good is 75 c going to do? If the levy encourages the use the use of “proper” plates and glasses – then we’re not really talking a cheapie fast food joint with just a counter. And all the plastic bad levy did in reality was to make every shop bar Dunnes and Tesco switch to paper bags (still free).

I’m not saying I wish it wasn’t different – I do… I just think we have ourselves (i.e. public at large) to blame for these things. Or… do what they do elsewhere get mean and nasty with littering. In the (not so) sunny South CCC send wardens out and they dish out €150 fines on the spot – I know several people who this has happened to – the pedestrian equivalent of getting your car clamped. So if that keeps up everyone will be terrified to even THINK about chucking rubbish.

Yeshhhh – the final height of the Clarion wasn’t really known as it was being built – they were hoping to come out no 1 – but at time of completion came out no 3 (Georges Qy wasn’t quite there yet). So dreary County Hall is still the best we can do – sigh. It’s extension/refit is finally about to get under way though…

Saw in the Indo property section an article about plans for a 19 storey residential block in (gasp) Ballymun!!! No seriously. It’s propsed for the north end of the area – and the height can go ahead as it’s location means it doesn’t interfere with the light in the new town (I’m paraphrasing here). does anyone know anything about this – or what it will look like.

[later says:ooops! sorry just noticed another thread referring to this project…]

Hmmm – Indo poll roughly 75% Yes, 25% No last count… what the hell are the “25% No” thinking?!?

(I’m sure I’ll find out now!!!)

I agree – Dublin is so much improved now – but I can see lots more that needs to be done around the place.

Hopefully the transport initiatives will start to have an effect too around the place.

Think of the poor barristers – when Charlie croaks, and we all forget about Rambo Burke… what will they do to maintain the lifestlye they’ve (we’ve provided) become accustomed to?!?

Niall, the only thing I’ll say in defence of the PPP deal above is at least after 30 years the taxpayer get the road back.
How many times over has the East Link been paid for by commuters???

€150m… Hmmm – sounds like a Bertie Jet.

Conference Centres are notorious money losers (the centres themselves) – but benefit the city on a wider scale in terms of increased visitor numbers etc. So I’d say the running costs are going to be a big sticking point here. Maybe tack a few hotels/offices and apartments on the site too to subsidise the place – isn’t that Spencer Dock anyway?!? So Treasury will benefit from the taxpayers building the centre – and will not have to bear any burden for running it. class.

Has anyone tried buying a black TV recently? They’ve all gone “silver” I use quotes cos usually it’s just waiting to be scratched plasticy junk colour. Fashion is fashion – and as we all know fashion always looks awful once it’s not fashionable (if you catch my drift). Who remembers having one of those wood effect TV’s??? yuck!

Safe to say in 20 years time we’ll all look back and cringe at what we thought was sooooo muchbetter and enlightened that tacky brown – so yes, um… silver is the new brown.

    Found this in Google:

    “PROPERTY
An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for a major development at Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin, the centrepiece of which will be a 96-metre tower block, making it Ireland’s tallest building. The applicant was the property company Dunloe Ewart but its chairman, Noel Smyth, says he now has to convince his board to proceed with the development. His plan is to start with an apartment block on one part of the site and it will be at least two years before the tower materialises. “

…and since Noel Smith is long gone – the tower has probably left with him (sniff sniff).

I think the competition being run by the DDDA for their U2 associated building has several things suspect about it – the fact that they don’t mention a 100m building around the corner is hardly surprising.

Zoe Dev’s don’t have the best reputation – so I’d be concerned that such a cool project has come under his control – but then again… Zoe were responsible for the Millenium Tower – which could spell success for the development, which does have full p.p. At this stage I’d say Dublin’s oversupply of office space will be the determining factor.

Sundat Times yesterday had article about our beloved Finance Minister slapping down the Metro no matter the cost (and any other rail projects – i.e. the run down “system” we already have).
Using the tried and tested method of hiding behind Eurostat and their accountancy practices.

C’mon – this is Finanna Fail for god’s sake – if Charlie can find a nice clinic tax break for his buddies to the tune of €63m, and can find time to go to Cheltenham – surely he can scam around anything.
    S. Brennan is wasting his time going to Madrid – it’s not like rail construction is the only incredibly overpriced thing in this country.
