Yes, but then there wouldn’t be the great view of the tower coming down the south link.

This “gateway” crap is pointless. Who cares if some motorist get’s a bit of a thrill when it’s at the cost of an established view in the city core.

ARGHHH! The more this rises the more my heart sinks. If only the tower element was shifted to the eastern corner

some impressive activity on the dunnes site – it’s massive.

any ideas what they plan to put in the development? there’s certainly scope for more than one large retailer on this site

The pictures look great, but give a misleading to the look of the place. Alot of the work is decidedly substandard. The stone paving is poorly laid, and the materials chosen in some cases sub-DIY (the green benches in particular will be flaking in no time).

But then again the speed by which the original square was reconfigured to look like this should be indicative…

quote from rte: The power generating stations at Great Island in Wexford, Poolbeg in Dublin and Tarbert in Kerry are to close. The steam turbine at Marina in Cork is also to close but the larger gas turbine there will remain open.

looks like that site is staying industrial for the forseeable future…

Graham, most hotels worth their salt have CHP’s. They’re quite common, you could even replace your gas boiler at home with one if so desired.

So looking at the list above I take it anything built of conrcete is fair game…?

This tower is a design feature of the overall development and not a solution to sprawl. The tower could’ve been moved to the South Eastern corner of the site which would have greatly reduced the impact on the up-til-now unspoiled vista of City Hall. Only downside, no “gateway” view coming in the southlink.

So the tower will pretty much be visible from all angles City Hall is viewed from, what about the “low-rise” parts of the development?

Now that the shaft is up I cannot help but be concerned at the impact this development overall will have on City Hall

Ever considered writing for the Daily Mail?!?

Seriously though, it’s possible to call the Emperor naked without descending to hysteria (or gloating on his or anyone’s annual bonus).

Enough of the slanderous JG knocking tone. It’s getting old. Fast.
