ParticipantAccording to avivastadium.ie the official opening of the stadium is this coming Friday May 14th.:)

ParticipantIt looks fantastic. I love the blend of green, steel and glass effect. It works really well asthetically.

ParticipantI agree entirely with GregF. Rather than bemoaning the (small) size of Lansdowne Road, there should be an atmosphere of cooperation between the GAA and IRFU/FAI where the biggest games (Gaelic/Rugby/Soccer) are played at Croke Park and the smaller ones (including GAA) played at Lansdowne.
In the longer term I would love to see Hill16 demolished and a continuation of the tiered seating to that end, with a fully enclosed roof. Then we would have 2 great stadiums.PaulC
ParticipantI am 100% sure there is no restricted views of the pitch from any of the seats. If you look carefully at the photos or videos this can be established.

ParticipantHere is a very good video of the stadium, filmed in the last couple of weeks…

ParticipantThanks Tuborg for the clarification – that is interesting. I hadn’t realised that alot of Caherdavin was already part of the city.

ParticipantThe increase in population must be more than 7,000, if all of those places have been added to the city area??? I would have thought Caherdavin alone would have that many.

ParticipantThanks for that Peter – the plans certainly looks nice.

ParticipantDoes anyone have any photographs of completed sections of the Square, or even drawings of what the proposed redevelopment will look like?

ParticipantSo presumably we will not know what the new stadium will look like until December????
Also a pity they are not proposing a retractable roof.
PaulC
ParticipantSurely this opens up new possibilities for the Bewleys Building on Grafton street????????
