PaulCParticipant
Thanks Brunel that is great. Keep a look out for Nationwide – I think they are doing a special on it. Not sure when – possibly this evening at 7:00.
PaulCParticipantI feel OConnell Bridge House looks as well as it possibly can. The thing is it should never have been built there as it is out of place totally.
Liberty Hall on the other hand has a better location and adds to the skyline from the Ha’penny Bridge angle at least. But It could do with an overall – new windows. I dont think it should be knocked or anything like that as it is as much part of our history as any other building.PaulCParticipantAlright, alright Maybe O Dea and Wogan are dodgy but the rest are fine!!!
PaulCParticipantIt really is not that bad. I have never seen anything anytime I was there. It has some fantastic assets…
– King Johns castle
– the Hunt Museum
– University of Limerick
– Home of Munster Rugby
We are in danger of generalising and tarnishing everyone in the city with the same brush.
Do we really think that people like…
– Richard Harris (rip)
– Terry Wogan
– Deloros O’Riordan
– Keith Wood
– Sam Smith
– Frank McCourt
– Willie O Dea etc etc
…would steal your camera or mug you?PaulCParticipantThere is a poll in Ireland.com today (sunday 26 Jan) asking is the Spire a welcome addition to Dublin.
So far 77% say yes – pretty decisive i would say.PaulCParticipantWhen I read this I also got the strong impression it was written by a Dubliner – or an Irish person at least.
I am not of the view that Dublin is dirtier than other cities. Some cities in Britain are worse.PaulCParticipantGraham – I saw that also. It look really white – very impressive. I saw it from the DART between Tara St and Connolly this morning at 7:30am.
PaulCParticipantJOKE FOR TODAY
=============
When the Spike has finally been completed you will be able to
walk down O’Connell street singing….> > > > Wait for it….
> > > > I can see Clery’s now the crane has gone
PaulCParticipantAre the Tai Chi guys there every morning or was it just this morning? It gave the whole thing a mystical feel.
Looks very impressive. I wish I worked in the city centre.PaulCParticipantsounds like a bloody good idea Paul!!!
PaulCParticipanthere is a pic from the Irish Times
PaulCParticipantPaulCParticipantActually I noticed the same effect with the Trump Tower in New York – not sure if any of you are familiar with it. But if you look up to the top of it – it reflects the sky perfectly and looks like a cage frame in the sky. An amazing effect
PaulCParticipantHas anyone exact dates for when this will be errected?
PaulCParticipantI believe that from nighttime at least, you will be able to see the light at the top of it from anywhere in Dublin city.
I hope they will be able to change the light colour also. In the same way the lighting at the top of the Empire State building in NY changes (e.g. Green for Patricks day, red for the Chinese new year etc etc.)PaulCParticipantThere are the original lampposts but have been cleaned. Unless they have switched them again in the last few days.
PaulCParticipantMy favourite(off the top of my head) are…
– Dublin City Council Offices
– Millenium Tower
– Herbert Park Office DevelopmentPaulCParticipantHere is a drawing of the spike at night
PaulCParticipantNo It is not correct to say that it is just a hole in the ground. The foundation is pretty much complete – this incorporates an underground room to access the electrics/lighting etc.
A large crane will be positioned on site this month and the Spike itself will be erected over a 2week period next month.PaulCParticipantIs there a picture (or a link to a webpage) of the new Tara Street station proposal??
