    Has anyone any pictures of the new National Aquatic Centre in Abbottstown. It is due to formally open next Monday.

    You can find a lot of pictures on their homepage – no decent shot of the finished exterior though.


    Some info from the architects webiste can be found here. You have to laugh when they say “The NAC has already been recognised as one of the finest and largest leisure facilities of its kind in Europe” – ah hello it hasn’t even been opened yet !!!

    Well I suppose ‘after’ the Celtic Tiger we do have two 50m pools, the absence of which was a major grip 10 years ago…

    Thanks Brunel that is great. Keep a look out for Nationwide – I think they are doing a special on it. Not sure when – possibly this evening at 7:00.

    Well at least something came out of the whole Sports Campus Ireland thing. An aweful pity the celtic tiger didnt last another 5-10 years, we might have seen more come of it.

    S&P‘s Aquatic Center made it back to the headlines today. the pool is leaking at a rate of five million litres of water a month. seems a lot by any standards.
    Maybe now it can be knocked and a national aquatic center built somewhere you can get to.

    Though if they hadn’t replaced the roof that blew away the rain might have maintained some kind of balance.. 😀

    ………just as well the Bertie Bowl was’nt built then.
