That cropped Havelock Square end certainly gives the stadium quite a strange shape when viewed from the air!
You were going to say bed pan weren’t you and then you thought better of it and decided to say ‘strange’ instead;)

On the whole, it’s going to be a terrific venue for Irish sport but unfortunately theres no getting away from the fact that the capacity is just too small!! ๐
I’d say the plan is to buy up the properties behind the Havelock Square end over time and complete the stadium properly at a later date. At least – that should be the plan!
If followed through, one would imagine this would increase the capacity to somewhere between 60,000 and 65,000. For me, this would be just about the right size.January 26, 2010 at 2:50 pm #726223murrmurr
ParticipantIt does look like a toilet seat.
let’s meet at the seat for the match ๐

I didn’t want to compare our new national stadium to a piss pot, but you can’t deny theres a resemblance there! ๐

ParticipantPity the Brazil game isn’t there. I reckon the midfield partnership of Kaka and Dudu would really suit the new place
(sorry folks but that’s the winner ๐ )

Participantit kind of looks like that, at some stage in the design process, the site location fell between two stools

Of course it’s not our national stadium, our national sports along with a host of others can’t be played there.

ParticipantPresumably the design can cope with blockages as well as sudden evacuations.

ParticipantI am so sorry for starting this!
January 27, 2010 at 10:16 pm #726235publicrealm
ParticipantIt works at both ends.
Believe it or not the em.. ‘evacuation passages’ in the stadium are technically known as vomitaria.
In an emergency, the stadium is designed for 50,000 people to be evacuated through these vomitaria in about 8 minutes I think. Visions from The Exorcist come to mind.

ParticipantNew ground level photos of the Potty Bowl!:
More exterior ones on the development site:
http://www.lrsdc.ie/gallery/singlecategory.asp?PCID=130It’s certainly looking truss-o-riffic and they hang very close over the top tier of seats, time will tell whether it ends up looking clunky and over-engineered or whether all that steel skeleton adds something to the character of the place.

ParticipantFar too much toilet humour going on here. I don’t want to go through the motions.
But with only 50,000 bums on seats it looks like money down the drain.I’ll get my coat.
Just point me to the nearest vomiteria :rolleyes:January 29, 2010 at 2:06 pm #726240foremanjoe
ParticipantWhat happens when Ronan O’Gara (or Johnny Sexton) kicks a Garryowen in this stadium?
I can see the whole upper tier of spectators suffering whiplash trying to follow the flight of the ball.
Very disappointed with those trusses, there must have been a more discreet method of implementing them but it was probably more expensive and deemed not to be worthwhile. - AuthorPosts
