looks good but seriously the GAA, Frank Murphy and municipal stadium do not go together!!

I am afraid to say we would be waiting a long long time for any plan with the municipal stadium to go through

few developments I haven’t hear anything about recently, first the proposed development on Clontarf St what is the story with that? And the Kino as well thought that was to get a makeover? Also when is the redevelopment of Dunnes on Pana supposed to be starting?

    In today’s Indo

ENTERPRISE Minister Mícheál Martin has described as “outrageous” reports that the future of a 1,200-job investment by US bio-technology giant Amgen could be at risk.

He said the reports circulating locally in East Cork were “totally stupid” and insisted the US firm had assured him the project would proceed in two years’ time.

“It has been made clear to us by Amgen in particular that they have a number of products earmarked for the Carrigtwohill site that they want to manufacture there.

“They regret what has happened (with the delay) but they are going ahead with the same plant and the same numbers employed by 2012,” he said.

His comments came as he opened a new European operations centre for Amazon in Cork which could ultimately employ up to 400 staff.

Minister Martin slated rumour-mongers who hinted that, once the General Election is over, further negative announcements may be made about Amgen.

¨Who is spreading these rumours? Who is putting it around the place? It is outrageous that this would be said. Why would I want to do that? They (Amgen) have already made the announcement. This is a fairly stupid rumour, to be frank. We do not control Amgen – we have supported their location into Ireland but we do not control the company.”

Amgen also emphatically rejected reports that their €1.2bn project was in jeopardy.

The California-based firm has insisted that the huge investment will proceed despite a two year delay in its roll-out.

The assurance came as the firm cancelled a planned sod-turning ceremony for its proposed plant site at Ballyadam in East Cork.

Former Cork Co Mayor, Cllr. John Mulvihill (Lab), warned that the promised jobs are absolutely crucial for the area.

Agreed I think that it should be limited to Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford possibly Sligo and Athlone, with the first 3 being the initial main priorities.

Question re decentralisation Labour over the weekend have made a big song and dance about their billion euro plan for dublin and that decentralisation would be stopped………I agree that it should not be in its current format but do they want to scrap it altogether??

I would agree with you regarding the docklands that they should got there own house in order first before they can go blaming someone else, but don’t you think central government should have been involved from day one like it was in Dublin…….the will didn’t seem to be there, half of it might have been because of who they would have had to deal with!

Doesn’t take away from the fact that cork politicans are very weak

This government hasn’t been great for Cork on the infrastructure side of things, the midleton line, the airport, the south ring fly overs and the north ring road, all badly needed but none getting central government funding. Another thing this goverment messed up was decentralisation, this was a chance to follow the spatial strategy and kick start real development in the regions…….if they had concentrated on the cities instead of decentralising jobs from Cork to Macroom:mad:

So why isn’t everything else stopping around the country until the interurbans are done?? Transport 21 is a lopsided eastern coast focued plan…….if the government are serious about their spatial strategy they need to put in the necessary infrastructure in gateways such as cork. As minister for enterprise and employment shouldn’t michael martin be ensuring that these projects are expedited so that businesses are attracted to the regions?? He is always very quiet concerning cork issues!!

they prob blocked the 17 stories for the water st development because it would have blocked the view from and of the 20/25 storey building planned for Horgans quay!!

And on Kent station, was going through the LAP and the restructuring of Kent station is a prerequisite for any development on horgan’s quay so what is this half arsed approach???

On the front page of the business section of the sunday times there is an article stating that Manor Park Homes have signed an agreement with CIE over Horgan’s Quay. CIE will receive 200m over 10 years. No timeframe though on when work is supposed to start! Anyone have any info on this or is it just old news be rehashed???

I think it actually looks alright, as was said earlier a sleeker design would be too much in contrast with county hall and actually take from the standalone nature of it. To me there is a continental style (maybe that’s just the clear blue sky;) ) to the design, alright a bit boxy but not bad!

First question is are Ridge Developments anyway involved with the O’Flynn development on Eglington St?? The reason I ask is that I heard that Ridge developments have received planning for a 17 storey tower in their Mahon Point development (first time hearing this so am doubtful if it’s true), and that it is a twin of the tower in Eglington St.!!!! Is there any truth to this??

Also this time from a reliable source, that the GAA are actively looking for land around the Blarney area, as in it is almost certain they are going to move from the docks!! Interesting to see how this develops and who will acquire Pairc Ui Chaoimh!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and that a prosperous new year is ahead!!

Was driving down Washington St. the other night and 2 developments I have heard about a while back but which haven’t gone to construction phase yet, Mannix’s and the Kino, were brought to mind. Does anyone know when these are going ahead or even if they are going ahead??? Would do a lot for the street, just like the renovated courthouse adds that bit of class.

was just checking out google earth, would love to see an updated image of Cork and perhaps for it to cover a wider area, it just misses my house! Not sure what year the photo was taken but the amount of development that has taken place since has been huge. In the image the Ballincollig bypass is just being built, the shopping centre hasn’t been started, the new terminal at the airport hasn’t been started, the site opposite he Blackpool shopping centre is still wasteland, mahon point is only started, Wilton shopping centre is expanding, alot of other things I am sure other people could point out………oh yeah pana makeover has just started! Definitely a tool that’s worth checking out!!

any word on our OPW / Revenue friends and the blackpool site that seems to have beaten the pack? surely the Kenny or Goldcrop site would be more accessible to train station, Kenny site being literally around the corner and goldcrop site would have been so accessible if a footbridge ever goes from docklands to horgans quay? – having said that, the assumption raod site isnt miles away either.

should be a rail link from kilbarry to the city centre so this also probably brought the area into consideration.

I have a question regarding the Fermoy bypass, passed by it today and they have the concrete dividers between each carraigeway such as they have on the Cashel bypass. Does this mean it isn’t going to be motorway?? Also I have seen the wire dividers have been put up on the Watergrasshill bypass, does this mean it is going to be upgraded to motorway? It is the exact same standard now as the motorway from Portlaoise to Naas. Either CCC or the NRA seem to have a fear of motorways in Cork!!!
