To put the height in context…
Saturn V rocket – 111m
Coast Redwood tree – 112m
Spire – 120mrobParticipantAccording to “the house book” (the one with bricks for a cover) the white house in washington was actually based on Leinster house….
robParticipantok, not as similar as I first thought, it is a swinging bridge, except that the pylon is straight instead of curved. Look for Puerto Madero footbridge.
robParticipantThere is a Calatrava bridge in Buenos Aires that looks a LOT like the Macken street. There are a few small differences….
robParticipantI see the Copenhagen trains are 40m long. The luas on the tallaght to abbey street line will hold 235 passengers and is 30m long. It is to my knowledge that the trams on the sandyford line will be 40m long, as it runs on the old railway alignment, so I presume they will hold a similar amount to the copenhagen metros.
robParticipantyeah, did you see the picture of the wheelie bin beside the ‘no dumping’? These bins seem to be everywhere. Usually they block the footpath, so you have to step out on to the road to be nearly run over by white-van-man going at speeds not uncommen to motorways. I admit it usually only happens when you’re passing through in the morning, but still.
robParticipantHorrid looking building, isn’t it?
robParticipantwell really deepnote, you surprise me sometimes….
robParticipantLuke, with FF recent record, it really makes me wonder how…
Todays poles shows an increase in support for FF. When will you people learn…
robParticipantahem, it is to my understanding that all parties plan to continue with luas, metro etc. And hasn’t the metro gone through its first planning stage (or was that a FF pre-election hype? twas in around february-ish, i think). It seems to me that it would be silly to not proceed as quick as possible with both as they they already be examined and reexamined since 1991, and remember FF decided to built the luas, then suddenly decided to change their mind and re-release it blah, blah, blah
robParticipantBooo to Bertie. In the coming election, please vote for anyone but Bertie. Go on you know you really want to. You want a public transport system, a heath service that works don’t you.
There are so many more important things than a stadium like say em HEALTH, EDUCATION, INFASTRUCTURE, CRIME, well everything really! Its just a matter of proitity, really, and yes we all know Lansdowne is completely rubbish beyond comprehension. Sorry GregF, I bet Bertie will run out of money (IF he gets elected) and the stadium won’t get built in the near future.
robParticipanthmm, we certainly could do with some interesting bridges. I have to say I rather like it – you get a great view from the shopping centre.
robParticipantyes Blain, I agree, we probobly wound not be chosen, anyway.
robParticipantLooking at the sport pages in the Times today, and I came across the stadiums that could host Euro 2008. Scotland has three football stadiums with over 50,000 capacity. Presently, we have zero. And would it be so bad if football was played at Croke park, even just for Euro 2008.
And another thing, does anyone know of any Irish football league teams stadium’s capacites? And who has the biggest?
robParticipantI wonder how many thousands CIE get from those advertisments?
robParticipantit already has (not from me, by the way)
robParticipantOn the topic of museum extensions – does anyone know of the progress on libeskinds brilliant plan for the V & A museum, London?
robParticipanthow about reopening the many closed down railway lines around the country?
robParticipantlets just hope that economy holds out, fianna fail get out of government, that we aren’t wading through piles of rubbish (well more than we are now!) and the world hasn’t gone into another disaster by the time the metro plan are finished. 15 years is a very ling time, can we make it!
aaaargh!
sorry.
Frank will still have the slight matter of our huge rubbish supply to talk about.
Rubbish problems aside, its all looking hopeful. Almost forgot! Urban sprawl! Ah well, can’t have everything.
