planning app 4215/04 . GRANTED. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE TOLD THEM ABOUT THE OLD BUILDING UNDERNEATH. – COZ OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITION.
    CONDITION
    1. There is a discrepancy between the conclusion of the conservation report submitted with the application and the report of the City Council’s Conservation Officer, dated 18/01/05, following the recent opening up works. In light of the third party objection to the demolition of the existing building, it is considered that the architectural and historic significance of the extant eighteenth-century fabric be fully assessed at this juncture. The applicant is asked to submit a revised Conservation Statement, which should be informed by the nature and extent of original fabric uncovered as a result of the opening up works viewed on the 13/01/05 as part of the submitted additional information request. It is noted that the applicant’s conservation consultant is asked to contact the area planner before the submission of this clarification to facilitate a joint detailed site inspection in conjunction with the City Conservation Officer.

surely if there is anything left of the old church underneath that “fallout shelter” he will not be permitted to demolish it!!!

I read the post at the top of the page by blue and thought it was talking about NOW…..then I saw the 2003 date!

How much longer til this is finished??

I suppose we should be glad that it has started at all how many projects in Dublin have got the green light and still havent even begun… tara St being a perfect example…as if the quality of architecture in Tara st wasnt bad enought (Apollo house et al) we also have to put up with near dereliction on the corner until they get around to building the tower there

This is a scandal, a number of good visitor attraction suggestions were made to the DDDA, Interactive science museums for example have a well-established ability to bring in huge crowds and with Dublin’s shortage of childrens activities, it would have done great. Instead, they were fixed on shopping and dazzled by the idea of Harvey Nicks, the cultural subsidy was wasted and then they couldn’t get tenants, presumably for the want of footfall, now they are going to have a hotel, like that’s exciting, and a few resteraunts and to get footfall up they are going to put the abbey on stilts, ruining one of the finest parts of the docklands areas. Fucking idiots.

    could not agree more!!!

Planning permission has been granted for a 32-storey building in Dublin.

The building, which will be the State’s tallest, is part of a development planned by the Office of Public Works near Heuston Station at Kilmainham in Dublin.

An Board Pleanála gave the go-ahead for the developement this morning.

The proposed development includes 197 residential units, offices, a museum building, a health club, restaurants, a pub, a childcare facility, an educational facility and an observation desk.

The lowest three floors of the 32-storey building will be used as a restaurant while 28 floors are for residential use. There will also be a public observation desk on the top floor.

At its highest point the building will be 140.55m above sea-level.

The board ruled against its own inspector and passed the development by 5 votes to 2. It said the high quality of the design involved was a factor in the decision.

I hope they aren’t really going to fill the dock, that would be stupid. The big gravel space might be it, I have been suprised in the past by how big that is.

wouldnt be a bad place to site the abbey provided its not more of the same crap that has been built down there already..is the proposal to have the new theatre surrounded by water which could actually look very well!

i find it odd that erection work hasn’t begun on either tara street, montevetro or quay lodge. i know it’s not called quay lodge anymore but i call it that as it’s easier to remember. according to some websites these buildings should be well under construction.

does anyone actaully know what the story is with Tara St I assummed it was the dart upgrade which was stalling that building

i know this has been discussed before but I was walking along Marlborough St today and you cant fail to notice the state its in especially the end closest to the abbey. Given that the national Cathedral, and theatre not to mention a government department are in this street you would think someone would deal with it!
