In 1840 Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin was commissioned to design a collegiate chapel of St Felix which was built in 1844.
Originally constructed as a parish church, it was designed by Fr Jeremiah Ryan McAulay,
The original ground for the Cathedral of Saint Andrew was given by King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma.
Started in 1837, the plans prepared by the architect James Hume, were of much more modest proportions and were for a traditional cruciform church in the Gothic style.
