LOBParticipant
ashford house is on the southern corner of poolbeg street East and Tara Street
I’ts about 10 years old
and I second the sentiment on Mulligans
Pah! pubgrub.-no chicken in a basket here[This message has been edited by LOB (edited 11 May 2001).]
LOBParticipantInteresting thought Paul
the buildings that did exist have been gone more than 20 years so the buildings on the north of the street would have aquired the right to light(except the newer developments)-but with hawkins house and apollo house in the way, the actual light would not be greatIt would be great to have something there to draw people to the street, rather than passing through
It has to be said that Poolbeg street has not been well served by the recent additions (both West and East) specifically the apartments behind the corn exchange as well as ashford houseLOBParticipantoops sorry paul didn’t see your last post!
LOBParticipantcannot remember but if there was room they might re-establish the street line which would to some extent mask hawkins house while reintroducing the scale of poolbeg street.
could be achieved if they removed the lower block nearest poolbeg street(wouldn’t effect the reception area)LOBParticipantHe’s in good company
Peter Rice, Eileen Gray….LOBParticipantRegarding Po’s point yesterday on the sacrificial tower
this quote is in today’s Irish TimesMr Jerry Ryan, of architects Horan Keogan Ryan, said his clients were “very pleased with the result” because it would still allow them to build some 600,000 sq ft (55,741 sq m) of space on the two-acre site.
speaks volumes
LOBParticipantPo, I formed the same opinion on the Smithfield tower. If you win, bonus
as far as I can remember,I think it was one apartment per floor in the towerLOBParticipantIt might be easier to check out old O.S. maps, if there was a terminus-the tracks would show on it.
Archinfo in Richview (ucd) would be worth a visit (large collection of old o.s maps)LOBParticipanthttp://www.dublincorp.ie/news2.htm
do a site search under “macken”[This message has been edited by LOB (edited 24 April 2001).]
LOBParticipantAccording to Peter Pearson’s “the heart of Dublin” the fish Market opened in 1897
also on the car park/gym he states“The Charity schools of the meeting house in St. Mary’s abbey catered for about thirty children in 1835.It is not certain whether any of the meeting house survives, although some of the external walls may form part of the present gym, which occupies an old hall on this site. At the end of Meeting House lane, behing the gym is a large building, now used as a car park where two substantial arcades, erected in 1882, support a heavily constructed steel floor above”
LOBParticipantMost likely digging trial holes, site investigation etc.
LOBParticipantPaul, I’m sure there is a wealth of site experiances/situations out there:As well as reactions to the buildings themselves.
LOBParticipantI resent pubs who only have cold flow.
also the “Quality” issue has a lot to do with the disappearance of the concept of serving your time(apprentice) to be replaced with the cheapest possible labour.LOBParticipantmethinks that these words are a desperate effort to placate-very planning report/EIS speak.
but when taken on their own-with the likes of the sweepstakes site, that new monster hotel,…..Help!LOBParticipantI have not had the chance to check yet. might try in the next few days
February 7, 2001 at 10:30 am in reply to: The Abbey Theatre – should it stay or should it go #717696LOBParticipantIt is not listed in the Dublin City Development plan (1999)
LOBParticipantA planning notice has been put up on Number 3 for change of use at ground and first floor and part of the basement for offices
with 5 apartments at second and third floor as well as the remaining part of the basement.LOBParticipantthis is list 1.
I checked with the Corporation and there has been no planning application recently
this stinks!!!!!!!LOBParticipantI agree paul, on the sloping sections at capel street bridge.
The plywood sections should only be an Interim solution, inserted in the rush to open it.
I’ve noticed that the pidgeons are also quite inpressed with the boardwalk- the top of the balustrading makes an ideal pidgeon perch -
