LOBParticipant
similar bridge,if a little more crude in design from 1992 in Portugal (not a swing bridge)
http://ip.pt/coaa/howfind.htmLOBParticipantI have to say I’m very disappointed in the new proposal.
it is now very run of the mill.LOBParticipantGoulding House 1975
good choice paul
not the most original building but very worthy
what about the late lamented Archers garage?and Alan, I’m in complete agreement on the sitting outside with a glass of wine-very difficult
but you could try Kelly & Ping in smithfield
the service is very patchy but the food and ambience are very good-the Brazen head is about the only pub in Dublin city centre where it is possible to sit outside (someone please prove me wrong)LOBParticipantI would love to see some indication of the design-it would be a fantastic site.
I hope Dun Laoghaire have the vision to carry it throughLOBParticipantwhile I try and dig something up, here is a site for welsh blue slate (cladding). it might be useful http://www.welshslate.com/cladding.html
You should talk to them about their experiances (as a competitor they may be more forthright and helpful in terms of normal procedure in this type of situationLOBParticipantDid the supplier advise you of this “natural quality” before you specified it?
ask the supplier of a list of locations where this product has been used previously and ascertain whether in those instances the blemish was tolerated-discuss with the Architects what was agreed. did they accept a 10% wastage on the supply?
Talking to previous specifiers is you best bet ( Architects who have dealt with that company previously on this product-check their clients list)
Hope that helps in some way.July 24, 2001 at 3:19 pm in reply to: New tallest building in Dublin to form part of Hammond Lane development (2) #717867LOBParticipantDoubtful as work is due to commence on October this year according to banners on the building. wouldn’t leave much time.
More likely to be the “cultural/public use” element often proposed by Developers in turn for increased/high rise development.(similar to the Childrens museum proposed in the Smithfield proposal recently)July 24, 2001 at 10:33 am in reply to: New tallest building in Dublin to form part of Hammond Lane development (2) #717863LOBParticipantHugh, don’t leave us hanging
where, what?.July 23, 2001 at 9:50 am in reply to: New tallest building in Dublin to form part of Hammond Lane development (2) #717858LOBParticipantIn the absence of any images of the proposed development I am posting a couple of sketches of Elevations I copied at the time of the planning application

LOBParticipantThis is not in dublin but I thought it might be of interest
Brunels early beginnings http://www.museumweb.freeserve.co.uk/brunel.htmLOBParticipantThere used to be a pedestrian walkway under north wall quay from the old railway terminal to the quay wall for passengers
I don’t know if it has been filled in or just blocked offLOBParticipantI totally agree with Gregf
-have the corporation plans to build a road beyond the bridge,I think I remember notices for CPO’s in that area
Kefu/ the arches of the bridge are splayed outwards so the effects of perspective are exaggeratedLOBParticipant“The original was far taller, far bulkier and was equal on both sides.”
It still is equal kefu, it is just the effects of perspective.[This message has been edited by LOB (edited 25 May 2001).]
LOBParticipantOn the subject of passages
there is the one between the provosts house in Trinity to front square.“There is no passage under Merrion Street, but the cellars under the hotel seem to run well out into the roadway, which may be the cause of that one.”
If you go to henrietta street at the moment you have the chance to see how far the Georgian basements extended out into the street. One of the basements which had been in need of repair has been exposed back to the springing point of the original brick vault(presumeably to enable reconstruction-which would be worth seeing as its a skill not exercised much these days)
LOBParticipanton the Country houses with tunnels for staff
Lissadell in sligo (Gore Booths) has one from the basement under the rear garden-about 20 metres long i think. it has been about 10 years since I was there.
LOBParticipantRead somewhere that there was meant to be a tunnel which ran from the old monastery at mary’s abbey to christchurch so that the monks could attend services- if it existed it would have been some feat of engineering
LOBParticipantRivers
like the camac which emerges under Heuston station
The poddle which goes under dame street and emerges beside the millenium bridge
there are a few more rivers but I cannot think of them at the moment.
there is also the railway tunnel under the phoenix park (goes under the zoo i think) -
