No Idea, but you could try contacting the Architectural Salavage company to see if they can point out someone who bought a lot of bricks of them. Personally I’ve always believed that most architectural salvage like bricks and stonework ends up in gardens.
JasParticipantSo what did you think of last night’s show?
I think in general that the series is shaping up to be fairly disappointing.
JasParticipantAs far as I know, the Bank of Ireland is involved, their offices next door are part of the scheme.
JasParticipantIt’s like some small midwestern state capital looking for a “landmark” building…. a sort of downmarket IM Pei……
JasParticipantSpencer Dock’s architect, Mr Roche, was to have appeared on RTÉ’s Late Late Show tomorrow but he pulled out after learning that many of the third-party objectors would also be present.
JasParticipantIt’s just so alien, so american
JasParticipantActually the more you see of it, the worse it looks:
JasParticipantThe NY World Fair pavilion is relatively unknown – because of the short term of its life and the fact that at the time, with war about to break out in Europe, architecture didnt seem all that important.
It did win the Medal for best building at the Fair.
JasParticipantWhat will be interesting, will be to see and read the attitudes and responses from the regular posters here to the ideas in the programme.
JasParticipantIt’s agreat idea, but I cannot really see the political will to fork out the money to move it. Afterall, they have the power to stop the new pier being built in the first place an dthey won’t do anything.
Wouldn’t it make a great aviation museum?
JasParticipantThis is excellent news, although I’ll forever be disappointed that the Irish government never stepped in and acquired the houses as an artists residence.
JasParticipantNation Building starts on February 10th, RTÉ 1,7.30 p.m.
JasParticipantI love this
“Its real purpose is to encourage Irish people, of all ages and from all backgrounds, to take ownership of their built environments.”
The RIAI would have a baby if the people were in control. Architects like to talk down to the people and push their own opinions onto any debate – the “we know best” argument.
Afterall isnt this forum about taking back the built environment from the realms of academic architectural discussion.
JasParticipantThere was a very good article by Shane O’Toole is yesterday’s edition of The Sunday Times about the bridge.
JasParticipanthttp://www.archeire.com/onsite/spike/index.html for information on the spike.
JasParticipantI assume the walkway will just stop, forcing pedestrians back out onto the footpath before starting again after the bridges.
JasParticipantNear Enniskerry I think
JasParticipantThat is a wonderful building – its simplicity of form must have been so difficult to achieve. It manages to avoid looking institutional in any way – I actually thought it was a collection of architect designed houses when i saw it first.
Take A Bow, O’Donnell & Tuomey……
JasParticipantYeah by Shane O Toole as well – a voice of reason and clarity at last!
JasParticipantExcerpts frpm The Evening Herald
12 October P.17“
Councillors are worried that the ‘blocky’ office building will take away from the original garages and over-shadow surrounding residential homes‘I would have hoped that the days of the bland office blocks would have passed’ said Cllr Ciaran Cuffe.
Cllr Frances Fitzgerakd (FG) added that the Corporation should not lower its standards for the building whish was being rapped [sic] around the restored garage.
‘I have that we are almost being asked to be grateful that the grage is being reinstated and we should not’ she said.
