Hi, I’m interested in 20th century houses, not the early International Modernist houses of the 1930s, although that is a very interesting period.
Are there many modernist houses from the 1950s and 1960s in Ireland? I came across this one in the recommended sites list from Scott Tallon Walker

We have the Irish Georgian Society to protect and educate us about Georgian Ireland but is there an organisation for 20th century architecture in Ireland?

There is an Irish branch of DOCOMOMO – the international working party for documentation and conservation of buildings sites and neighbourhoods of the modern movement. If you’re interested contact the architect Shane O’Toole.
Watch this space as there is currently a website under design.

I was told recently that the Goulding House was abandoned and being left to be destroyed by vandals. Is this true? If so it is a disgrace!

it is on the dargle river and it is true that it has fallen into disrepair.
A friend had to study it in college and it was a shame to see the state of the building from the photos. -

I think I will try to get a look at this house this weekend, can anyone provide me with detailed directions from Eniskerry (Say the Monument in the square). I will be on foot from there. Is it on private land?
Much Appreciated

Go down hill turn right opposite the hotel and head toward the Bray Dual Carriage way for a good 2 – 3 miles.
As you apporach the road there is a gatelodge on the right. This is the entrance to the private estate so I suggest you ask from here on in.
If you get in go on up 200 – 300 yards and you are there.

Do you have to go that far – I think go out of the village like you suggested – first right I think up past a very large thatched house [not cottage a house] and on up the hill and its down to the left in the river valley.
I think….

Joyce is right.
The gatelodge is currently on the market (owned by Johnny Ronan – Noel O’Callaghan’s brother in law – as is the Summerhouse and main house on the site – all bought some years ago from Tony Ryan).
