First sections of the bridge seem to have arrived in the Liffey today. Looks like the support to fit into the concrete structure that’s already there
dan_dParticipantThey’ve taken the shutters off the liftshaft down there, you can see it as you drive past. It’s still only about one level above the ground level in the site down there, it hasn’t gone any hogher in months.I drive past every day and can see it clearly.Obviously the tower has stopped for some reason. But i’ve heard Crosbie saying it’s definitely going ahead too, so why are they dismantling it?I heard they are bringing it up to ground level and no further.
dan_dParticipantThe orginal render on the PWC building was white, wasn’t it??I’ve seen impressions of it like that. It’s desperately depressing and slightly monolithic, with it’s current shade of grey. And the grey granite in the landscaping. And the grey (looking) building behind it.Matches the grey sky and the murky grey liffey….!!!
dan_dParticipantThe Point itself looks great since it’s been cleaned..but the whole plastic box that’s been stuck on top of it is just wrong!!And I have ny suspicions that it will light up from the inside.Colourfully.It’s…tacky..:(
dan_dParticipantI remember someone here saying these are “not things you simply deconstruct”….major lurker btw…. so is he goin to box it up in glass or something
That may have been me.Apologies if I seem to be lurking, but I don’t have a massive amount of time on my hands to spend reading every single item on these boards, and posting replies.I manage to occasionally read stuff, that’s about it!
On topic, I don’t understand as much as anyone else, why you’d go to the trouble of digging a massive hole in the ground, pouring something up to ground level and then abandon it..possibly indefinitely…in the middle of a high profile development, part of which will open in the next couple of months. Its an eyesore, a massive waste of money, I imagine it’s a safety issue aswell to leave it sitting there in close proximity to a public building that will attract crowds of people, and overall, a complete waste of time.Takes away from the credibility of the entire project aswell. But it seems to be the way things are going in the industry.dan_dParticipantProbably more like permanent holidays….for something that big, I’m not sure what they think is going to magically change in 3 months. And I don’t know why construction can continue on everythin else on that site.you can actually see the top of the tower when you drive past the gate into the site.
dan_dParticipantThe RPA didn’t exist up to, what,6 years ago….so probably no!
dan_dParticipantjust the tower
dan_dParticipantyes it has stopped since the friday of the builder’s hols. It’s on hold for 3 months, they’re waiting to see “how things go”.It was on the news that day, but I also know people down there, and it has definitely stopped.
dan_dParticipantYou make a refreshing change, I like your enthusiasm,pepsi!
It will look good, and it will look even better if it’s balanced out by other buildings as tall in the same area, although that might be hoping in vain. Give it a shot, let’s face it, no matter what building was built here, some people wouldn’t like it.dan_dParticipantI don’t mean to be smart, but they’ve already constructed some of the shaft, and you don’t”disassemble” that kind of thing, short of destroying it completely. Also I know people on the job, that’s the reason I was saying it has definitely begun construction.
T’would be absolutely sickening if they had to stop at ground level. What an incredible waste of time and money. And a really big hole left in the ground!!!!!dan_dParticipantDrove past the Point site, and the shaft is up to just above ground level. You can see the steel sticking out the top of the shutters (if the gate is open, and you happen to be stuck in traffic!).Shaft’s well under way.
dan_dParticipantDo we not all want to be able to see straight from Amiens street to the containers in the Docklands? No?!!
Yeah, I hear you, but it is a slightly random location. Where does the Luas end down there, it seems to be going in a dead straight line down the middle of the IFSC, Spencer Dock, and on to the Point.Does it go to the Docks aswell?dan_dParticipantIt’s not really that big a deal,I mean same basic concepts as any other buildings!!!But I think it’s location is a bit odd. It seems to be going into that large excavation almost directly behind the point itself. It’s a bit….random.For want of a better description. It’ll just be kinda sticking up there in the middle of nothing in particular….
dan_dParticipantThe liftshafts are under construction at low level. Won’t give my sources away, but they have definitely started work on it!
