Whenever I see that house in Sandycove, I always think of California.
BoylerParticipantI know that the Giant’s Causeway is a World Heritage Site. Skellig Michael is one as well. Don’t know the third but it may be Newgrange.
BoylerParticipantDoes anyone have any information on what is going on on O’Connell Street? Have they finished it yet?
BoylerParticipantWhat is the most attractive bridge over the Lee in Cork?
BoylerParticipantBut they should know in advance that things like zebra crossings are needed. This government is the biggest eejit for overspending on roads etc. Is eejit an irish word?
BoylerParticipantWhy are the government building this motarway if they know that it will be delayed for years and over-budgeted by millions (or even billions)?
BoylerParticipantHow many World Heritage Sites are in Ireland?
BoylerParticipantWhy’s that?

And just because a city may have a bad reputation, it doesn’t mean that a person can’t visit and admire it. Does anyone have pictures of the docklands in Limerick? Thanks in advance.
BoylerParticipantI wonder if there is anything that Shanghai could learn from Cork?
BoylerParticipantI still haven’t gotten used to this website.

Has the motorway linking Cork and Limerick to Dublin been given some sort of green light or is it still some urban myth? Also, isn’t the bypass in Fermoy a motorway? I haven’t seen it yet, but I thought I heard it was. I think more emphasis should be put on public transport e.g. rail, instead of on roads. Ireland must be the only country in Europe (after Moldova) that still uses diesel engines to run it’s rail network. We were better off in the 1950’s when almost every town in Ireland was connected to a railway line, since then all of these stations have been dwindling away. I was so delighted to hear that the railway line will be extended to Midleton from Cork, providing a commuter service that is heavily needed. But an extension of the service isn’t good enough, it should be happening nation wide. My biggest disappointment is that we only have one railway provider, compared to countries such as England and Germany where they have 5 or 6 companies operating trains. What does everyone else think??
that’s a good idea

The first paragraph is supposed to be a quote.BoylerParticipantTo an outsider I’d say Dublin does have an air of a provincial British city in terms of its built environment; I can see it in the faces of tourists every day, but anyone who knows anything about these two nations will notice just how different Dublin is – on a host of levels, not least its architecture which has a uniquely Irish tinge to it, even if it has its roots in UK design.
What would be uniquely Irish in foreign architecture?
BoylerParticipantJust thought I would write something. I don’t want thread to go away.
BoylerParticipantI think that the Government Buildings look great! They’re very imposing in my opinion and look like they are from Paris, Vienna or Rome.
BoylerParticipantAre there any Art Nouveau style buildings in Ireland?
Are there any paintings or prints of the old Parliament House before it became the Bank of Ireland?BoylerParticipantAre the Government Buildings in the baroque style or the neo-classical style of architecture. I’m getting different answers from the books that I’m reading.
BoylerParticipantIf only something like that was built in Ireland…………. But it’s okay, Irish architecture ain’t so bad.
BoylerParticipantIf we keep comparing what the Irish and the French have, we are only going to make ourselves depressed.
