Sorry about your disturbed childhood pier39, i’m glad to see your trying to cheer yourself up with laughter ha ha ha. I like that Oyster building thingy, it looks as if it will suit the area, it’s a contrast with that white canopy (which looks to be going brownish now) at the bus depo. Gotta go to Tesco, I’ll be back! (Gawd, its Arnie night tonight)

Glad ye all noticed, thx lex, I was going for the Carnaby Street boho look alright. As long as we get our 2 airbridges, I'm happy! The CAA has no problem forcing the DAA to pay for these new air bridges, but I doubt the third and fourth will come as easily as the CAA themsleves will have to pay for them.
Es tut ich Leid, den mein Deutsch nicht gut ist. (Sorry my German isn't any good).[/font:w8gt124f]

Thanks for the info. Yeah, thought buildings in excess of 100m was too good to be true for Cork. Shame the Water Street development was changed, I prefered it when the tower was in the middle, it looked more symetrical and very classy. Another botched job by the planning authorities! It looks very similar if not identical to some apartments that were built in London's docklands last year (don't ask me the name, I'm after forgetting).
And whats this I read in the Echo today…… Cork's two airbridges still in consideration by the DAA, fools. Maybe their plan is to turn Cork into a little regional airport like Waterford or Sligo so we'll be forced to use Dublin Airport to leave the country. What will the people from New York think when they arrive into Cork airport only having to find they have to sprint across the tarmac! First world country, third class facilities!

Oh my god, I've never heard of a building in Cork topping 100m. Can someone give me more info. about the other “high” rise projects of the city. I've only heard of the names but thought they were like some urban myth or something. Where are they going to be built if/when they get the go ahead (or have they already recieved the green light, I cudda been living like a hermet under a rock while all these projects came about)?? And sorry if ye gotta repeat what I missed out on.[/font:2ww910eb]

When completed, will Eglington Street replace Cork County Hall as Ireland's tallest building, or is there some other building in Dublin going to steal the proud title???[/font:8hwqcj4q]

It was front page news on the Echo today, PC World and Currys are opening within the next few months in Mahon Point. I didn't even here rumours that they were opening up in Cork and what a shock I got when I saw it on the frontpage. Thats some good news for Mahon, should balance things out between there and Blackpool. Didn't here that Harvey Normans wanted to buy the old Woodies, but they want to open up 3 new stores in Ireland over the coming years. I've been in one or two of their shops in Australia, didn't think they were that great though.[/font:3n9n6b7z] 😉

So glad to here that the Echo Boy is back Radioactiveman, you've been talking about him for so long, you must be really chuffed. And Re: Homebase Securityman, I heard they were looking for a place in the Carrigtowhill area (but it might be only roumour). Fire at the new airport terminal, I hope it wont slow down the construction of it.[/font:2mvje3ht] 😉

Why is it that to build an airport extension in Ireland costs in excess of €100 million, when a high standard airport terminal can be built in Frankfurt for €14 million. We dont need gold f**king plated toilets, we just need an airport. If we could build terminals for €14 million , I think they’d be operating trans atlantic flights out of Knock!

Does anyone know who else, besides Habitat are interested in Cornmarket Street. I've heard talk about H&M moving in there. Also, when the f**k is IKEA supposed to open in Dublin. Ireland must be the only country in the world that doesn't have a single IKEA. Has the store even been built yet??[/font:39mkz4sb]

I always thought that a trolleybus connecting the city centre with MP was “part of the plan” obviously I must have been mistaken. If it was up to me I would definetly not go down the Luas type of way. Although trams are extremely popular all over Europe, they take up time and valuable space. A better solution would probably be a Monorail. They are fast and more efficiant than a tram and definetly the way into the 21st century. They are also alot cheaper to install and run and also doesn’t take up road space, allowing buses and cars to roam freely. Monorails exist all over the world, from theme parks to large urban areas and even small country towns. Check out this website http://www.monorails.org it gives a great insight into how they operate etc. Maybe then Cork might have a world class transportation system. This is highly unlikely as our government wont have the plans, the money or the time to give Cork a transportation system that challenges cities around the world. 🙁

I totally agree JPD. London, Paris and New York have world class transportation systems….. not Cork. To know what a world class transport system is, just look at the Underground, DLR, Tramlink, Thameslink and all of the other high speed ELECTRIFIED trains that are in London. It's the only city in the world that is a role model for other cities wanting good transportation links. Cork doesn't even come close to having a “World Class Transportation System”. We had a better transportation system in the 1900's, when we had electrified trams going all over the city. I would so love to tell the Minister for Transport that diesel engines are NOT the way to the future!!! World Class….. what a joke! But never the less, I am utterly delighted that the Cork-Midleton line is reopening and some good investment money is coming in Kent stations way. Baby steps, but it has to count for something.[/font:1bzh6a1l]

Does this developent mean that Cork will have an additional bus station or will the present one simply fall in to a derelict site???[/font:vmhr47e0]

I know we've moved on from the Midleton-Youghal talk, but I really think that re-opening the line would be a very good solution to the road problems. Espeically during the summer months, it's often I've had to wait for an hour to get into the town. The recently opened by-pass took alot of the brunt, thank god. But railway would be good idea for alot of commuters to Little Island. Also, that is really good news about the airport. Would be delighted if we got our original four airbridges, but talk about wasting time, just put the extra two in already, not hanging around waiting for another ten years and then deciding not to spend the money! Good news about Eglington Street too![/font:orum7dor]

Ohhh, also, I'm so delighted that Cork Airport Authority is in talks with Ryanair about opening up new routes to mainland Europe and Scandinavia. If theres anything that Cork needs it's cheap flights to the continent, not just London.[/font:prs7ts2z] 😀

Shame for Limerick, it obviously needs bigger and better roads sooner than Waterford. Limerick is Ireland's third city and needs money invested in its roads sooner than Waterford.[/font:26ngot8s] 🙁

Traffic will get worse, but thank god it's all dual carraigeway from Midleton to Cork. I cant even imagine what the main road to Cork would be like for commuters every morning if the dual carraigeway wasn't there. Didn't the old road to Cork go though both Midleton and Carrigtohill??? How dreadful! [/font:3sq7soxy] 😮

I read last week that Cork County Council want 2500 houses built in Midleton over the next few years. They believe Midleton would be more suited as Corks main satellite town over Mallow as the East Cork region is one of the fastest growing area in Ireland. Does anyone know where all of these houses will be put? I cant think of any sites in or around Midleton that would support that number of houses. I also read that Midleton Town Council are trying to get it's bounderies extended so that the town will become the same size as Galway City. Is there any truth in that statement or did someone just get carried away writing??[/font:3b03otd1]
