Can someone please explain me the meaning of the word Luas?…is it the compnies name, the type of tram…? Whatever it is, i´m glad you decided to install it in Dublin. We have it (well, something like it)in Portugal for more then 100 years and it stills being used everyday for thousands of people. But when there are problems (like crashes, something not working well, etc.) traffic becames cahotic!! the subway is always the best option here…

Another nice/wierd idea is a solution i have been seing apllied on shopping centers (not bars yet). The process consists on apllying acrilic elements like the place where you wash your hands (or whatever you call it!), the cover of the toilet itself, etc. Inside the transparent acrylic you find several objects “freezed”. i.e. lipsticks and jewllery in ladies rooms, steaks and forks on the toilets near the restaurants, toys on the childrens toilet, etc. The act of going to the toilet starts to be a “observation game” too, trying to find the most peculiar objects. The wierd part is when u need to seat on top of food and other wierd objects!!

You can find the same type of toilets at the public toilets at the Museum Plane in Amsterdam… it looks clean and sofisticaded but its bloody scry if you don´t know what really happens when you close the door!! Anyway there are some really nice toilets at a bar in a hotel near the Liffey (can´t remember the name but i´ll check it). Of corse i mean only the female ones, i didn´t visit the others!

And what about women´s toilets?… I´ve noticed that in Dublin, apart from the lack of privacy, there´s no space left near the handswashers for make up or keep your bag while you wash your hands… and if there is, it´s always wet!!! but maybe i´ve just been on the worst places…

Alan, I think you will enjoy your visit to Lisbon at the RIAI conference in November. I’ll not be there but i think i’ll be available in case you or your partner need some help around here and to give you an idea of the best places to visit if you have the time. Even that Portugal is a “nice” country, dont forget the language is very different and it also rains, specially in November .

Some of your images look ok, even being a bit to much photorealistic… but that must be your clients requirements (i hope!).

Anyway, was there a real need to have GOOD LOOKING WOMEN IN BIKINI in the images ???!!!

Well, Kristian’s work really suprised me but there´s a lot of people who also run away from the photorealism and try the 3D abstract schemes too, in a very expressive way… and i dont mean only the “young” architects like me.
As an exemple, at my office the 3D models are a constant since the beggining of a project wich can seem absurd but turns out to be a very usefull tool specialy on complex projects. So our clients are used to see it since the start at the same time as the hand drawings. Where you can notice it more is on TV sets and interior projects we produce where the calculations of lights and camera’s tracks is much more easy to study…

I think that the general problem is to see the computer capabilities only as a way of “final presentation” and not being able to explore the world of tools it offers us during all the process!

The hand drawing is also essencial trough all process and probably the most useful tool but what you can achieve is much more conceptual and, therefore, much more personal and many times harder to explain to others (specialy clients!).

And James, dont worry about cheating occassionally by tracing over a 3d model because, as i said, you are just using the best tools you can get and mixing them .

by the way, sorry you all for my bad english…
