Joseph Aloysius Hansom was born in York on 26 October 1803 of a Roman Catholic family. He was articled to his father as a joiner in York but having shown some ability in draughtsmanship was allowed to let his articles lapse with new ones taken out with ‘Mr Philips’,
City Hall was designed by Foster and Partners, whose design brief was to create a building for the GLA (Greater London Authority) that would become a new landmark for the capital.
The most famous example of Roger’s work with the services exposed on the outside, Lloyds is a modern London landmark.
Butler’s Wharf was built between 1871-73 as a shipping wharf and warehouse complex, accommodating goods unloaded from ships using the port of London.
