I used to work in aer-rianta for a year and a bit. They were a victim of their own policy when they could’nt build a new creche because it was in a red zone. But i’m with the airport on this one. If the runway’s are ever extended which they most probably will the red zones will shrink. Also Aer-rianta allready own most of the land around the airport so avoid paying stupid money when they need to build something. It gets on my nerves when you get people living near by complaining about the amount of air-traffic overhead. what did they think whan they bought thier house, that air travel was on the way out?????? madness
SeAnCParticipantsnip>>Has anyone heard of the Royal Circus????
J. Seerski<<snipyeah ive heard of it. its on one of the old maps of dublin i think. I thought that was something to do with mountjoy?? it was supposed to go at the end of the vista from st. george’s church to the matter hospital and was going to be a circular square (if you like) with many a mansion sorrounding it!!! but instead they built mountjoy jail there a few years later after someone got killed in a rebillion in dublin at the time and so it was abandoned. that was my patchy understanding of it anyway. anyone know the real truth to the story?
SeAnCParticipantA few ugly buildings I wouldn’t mind driving a ball and chain into are….(in no particular order) fingal offices and Dublin bus building on o’ Connell street oh yeah and the eircom building and the hotel across the road. The new lime green Suhew(spelling??) building near the bottom of the said street. The airport hotel in santry or is it the skylon?? The EBS building on Westmoreland Street, the matter hospital looks pretty dire as well, most of the buildings in and around the airport….
SeAnCParticipantI think I am right in saying that it was the irish government who shut down various lines all across the country like the harcourt / broadstone and all tram lines in dublin for example. only now are we re-opening them (luas) and many still more will remain closed, like the old line out to navan. And still to this day they give less money to irish rail and expect them to provide a better service!!
Its a joke, all i can do is laugh when i think about it because there’s no point in getting mad/frustrated…..
SeAnCParticipantcheers,
Very clever idea with the ole bi-noc-ulars btw.SeAnCParticipantwhere did u take the last picture from fjp. remiends me of prague when i departed from it on the train (surrounded by a ring of filthy flats)
SeAnCParticipantwho knows maybe people will say it is’nt tall enough in years to come!
I was impressed with canary warff in london. I was staying in southgate which is north of london about six miles or something and you could see the red light on top of the building very clearly at night. It gave a good sense of where the centre of london was in relation to were i was staying. maybe the spike will do the same?SeAnCParticipantIts just that I drive into town every day from swords and I can see the poolbeg towers a few times on the way (weather permitting). so I was wondering if I will be able to see the spire.
I am looking forward to seeing it up. I think it will look brilliant and will add to the city despite what most Dubliners are saying. But most people are up for a good moan these days given half a chance. They have answers and an enlightened opinion on everything!
SeAnCParticipantWhat is the height difference between the
poolbeg towers in ringsend and the sword of
light (or whatever they are calling it!).
I presume the spike is smaller? -
