Two spanking new additions to Pearse Street which seem to have elicited little or no comment here. Are there any Archiseekers still out there….?
First up its the new Biosciences Building which looms large over the Pearse Street skyline. Surprisingly from street level it has a very satisfactory appeal. Its very urban, well proportioned (I think) and really quite a nice addition to this fast changing street.

I love this side elevation….looked great in the light
Looks great I have to say. Just fixed some tags for you ๐
darkmanParticipantdarkmanParticipantIt’s looking sleek from this angle anyway.
Pier E progress from DAA website
darkmanParticipantIt’s already on the boat. Probrably already left.
darkmanParticipantDon’t know when it will get here but it is going tomorrow so how many days does it take to get here from Holland:confused: It will arrive in May some time. That is all I know. I don’t think we will miss it when it appears;)
darkmanParticipantThe pontoon about to take it to sea
One thing I notice is that the deck is very wide on the bridge – you could probrably fit 3 vehicle lanes each way on it and still have room.
darkmanParticipantCan’t post the link as it is a forum link. Trust me – that IS the bridge.
darkmanParticipantOk, I can now present the visual evidence of the bridge under construction in Holland – it is to be transported over on the 2nd or 3rd of May according to local papers there and posters on a Dutch forum
Oh yeah it exists alright!
“- Transportation date on 2 or 3 May (from the yard)
– In May It will be placed on the concrete column in the river
– Completed in November 2009. Then it also gets its official name: Samuell Beckett Bridge”๐

Video featuring the tower and other elements.
darkmanParticipantI think this is probrably the most superb looking building built in Dublin for many, many years. It looks fantastic.
darkmanParticipantThe Green Light has been given to the Dublin Central scheme….could not find a thread on that.
darkmanParticipantlol! Beautiful pics though…..
darkmanParticipantThis together with Arnotts will transform the entire area – looks really good.
darkmanParticipantCrosbie claims his scheme would have been stopped had the government not given it’sbank gaurentee. Now it has he says constuction keeps going

Maybe that was the ‘delay’? – Hence the new pics now up on the website? Who knows….getting tired of this though. Cancel it or build it already for fupp sake…
darkmanParticipantDelayed – 12 months
U2 Tower Statement
Dublin Docklands Development Authority
Over the past year, the Dublin Docklands Development Authority and Geranger Ltd (*) have been in ongoing discussions regarding the advancement of the U2 Tower as a major project for Dublin Docklands and significant progress has been made. However, the Docklands Authority have now decided to suspend negotiations regarding the development for up to twelve months to allow for an improvement in the current uncertainty surrounding the property and financial markets.
Geranger was selected as the provisional preferred bidder to design, construct and finance the U2 Tower and Britain Quay Building late last year. However, intervening market events have understandably made progress more difficult.
The Docklands Authority continues to have full confidence in this landmark project for an inspirational U2 Tower building, which is an important element in the Master Plan for the area.
The objective is to see this landmark project completed. However, given the current unfavourable economic environment, more time is needed at this juncture. The Docklands Authority will review all of its options on an on-going basis.
The Authority is confident that these economic uncertainties are short to medium term and that the Docklands will continue to be a vibrant and positive regeneration project for the city of Dublin.
Since its inception in 1997, the Authority has overseen the development of a world class 520-acre economic hub in the Dublin Docklands and which is currently employing 40,000 people. The Authority looks forward to developing a positive future for all those organisations and people, who live and work in, and visit, the Docklands.
darkmanParticipantThey have not cancelled the tower. It is set for completion in Q2 2010. Apparently Crosbie wants to allocate more possibly to office space and he is adament that the tower is going ahead.
Why would they bother putting new pictures of the tower up? In the Irish Times a few weeks back – low and behold – another big picture of the tower in the property supplement.
darkmanParticipantNew pics from the website
darkmanParticipantI could have sworn I saw the lift shaft for this today from the IFSC ut I cant be sure – anyone confirm. Looks like it appeared in the last couple of days.
darkmanParticipantIt would be more attractive of course if politicians and councillors in this country were not as corrupt as they are.

Slight Tangent – Can a building that’s only 120m high be seriously called a skyscraper?
Anyway as for the go ahead, I’ll believe it when I start seeing the centre core appearing from the hole in the ground. ๐My point is its probrably higher then 120m. Can 40 storeys be considered a ‘skyscraper’
It is a skyscraper in a Dublin context though.
