ParticipantCrosbie claims his scheme would have been stopped had the government not given it’sbank gaurentee. Now it has he says constuction keeps going

Maybe that was the ‘delay’? – Hence the new pics now up on the website? Who knows….getting tired of this though. Cancel it or build it already for fupp sake…

Participanthahahahahahaha im delighted its stalled along with every other high rise dublin had planned just goes to show what a shambles planning and construction in dublin “city” is and i use inverted coma’s becouse dublin isn’t a city its a kip comprising of a sh*t load of villages that have grown into each other. In the time it takes planners in this country to plan and get planning permission and finally get permission to build their buildings other buildings around the world have been erected and occupied. Get real folks and forget about it.

ParticipantI’m really wishing that the tower goes ahead, Is it still above ground level? Surely this stall in construction costs the developer money? With all the money that’s been spent on it already on planning, publicity and enabaling works, It’d probably be more expensive to get rid of the foundation than to build it, get it over and done with and start making some money back with the sale of apartments and office rent etc. They could even hold on to the apartments and sell them when market conditions improve.

I’m just not sure if I’m still gonna be alive in 2108 :p

KeymasterLast line of this article about the Point Depot
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/1120/1227135219864.html“Its centrepiece, a 40-storey tower, is on hold for at least a year due to the economic downturn.”

ParticipantAnother indicator that were the city council to proceed now with the proposed new high rise policy, it would be lunacy…
Especially now, as it would artificially inflate site bank values with no real prospect for actual development – a perfect recipe for dereliction 😮

According to the Sunday Business Post yesterday, Harry Crosbie has denied that the project is on hold for a year.
Although, I passed there today and it does seem to be fully covered over so maybe he’s disputing the quoted length of the delay rather than the delay itself… anyone heard anything ?

I suspect they’re wrong. He’s going to go for change of use on it

ParticipantThey’re not wrong in that Crosbie has been insisting the building’s not on hold.

Participantwas back in dublin for the weekend. like how the new convention center is coming along. also went and checked out the point development. had read on this thread that the tower element had ground to a halt recently but it certainly didn’t appear that way. a lack of construction workers onsite but it was the weekend. looked as if the lift shafts were a few floors above ground level.
