1953 – Calvary Hospital, Renmore, Co. Galway
Architect: Robinson, Keefe & Devane
Now known as Galvia Hospital, a private hospital, but previously known as Calvary Hospital and operated by the ‘Blue Nuns’, the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary in Renmore in 1953. An unusual plan with terraces on both sides, parts of the original building can still be discerned in the modern hospital buildings. It was well equipped with 71 beds and provided a maternity service and in-patient care for medical and surgical patients. The nuns closed the hospital in 1985 because of a lack of vocations and a reassessment of the aims of the order, they had run five hospitals prior to closure. Sold, and reopened in 1986 as Galvia Hospital.
