1969 – Former Ryan’s Hotel, Old Dublin Rd., Galway

One of several large hotels constructed in a couple of years for the Ryan Hotel group by Stephenson Gibney & Associates. The Connacht Hotel was first opened in 1969 as The Galway Ryan Hotel. The hotel consisted of 96 bedrooms, a restaurant and a bar. Like the others, they had long low bedroom wings, often surrounded by flat green lawns. Now much altered, barely recognisable from the front, original portions of the building can still be discerned towards the rear.
