On the site where St. Frances Cathedral stands today there was originally a small mission church.
In 1909 The Daily New Mexican newspaper announced that architect Isaac H. Rapp had been awarded the commission to design a new Scottish Rite Cathedral.
Designed by the Boller Brothers of Kansas City, the old Lensic Theater has been described as “the finest theater of its time in the Southwest”.
New Mexico claims the distinction of having the oldest as well as one of the newest state capitols in the United States.
