If that effect is just perspective, it would make the bridge about ten or twelve metres wide.

That picture of the Blackhall Street Bridge is almost certainly a redesign.
The original was far taller, far bulkier and was equal on both sides.
Either it was an unflattering picture or this is a changed version.
This one looks far more attractives and fits in far better with the streetscape.
Previous pictures made the bridge look very obtrusive.
Have to agree with one contributor who said Calatrava bridge is more suitable on a wide stretch of river.
Although his bridge in Bilbao is not a particularly wide span.
However, where that one works is in having wider boulevards on either side of the river.
The quays make the entire area from one side of Liffey to other very squat and skinny.

The Mercantile now has three pubs for the price of one. The original, O’Briens next door and now they’ve opened up another modern place next door. There must be some legislation to stop this – it appears that all you have to do is leave the doors between them open.

Also on the subject of Hanlon’s on the NCR. The mosaic on the floor is an absolute masterpieces, one of the finest I’ve ever seen in this country. It’s absolutely priceless and the Guinness there makes it worth the trip.

The Magazine Fort might not be entirely appropriate for any kids to be hanging around considering the amount of rent boys that frequent the area

It should be noted that there is limited planning permission for matches at Croke Park. Even if the GAA wanted, all matches couldn’t be played there. That was one of the agreements struck with locals over the redevelopment. And it’s also non-negotiable. Also, Lansdowne is a pitiable stadium – it clearly doesn’t have the capacity for really big games. Even the IRFU know this and have agreed to switch to Stadium Ireland. What might make more sense would be to redevelop Lansdowne Road into something of note. The IRFU will eventually dispose of it and the government should be the buyer. Stadium Ireland is an absolute necessity. The suggestion that it should move from Dublin is beyond laughable.
