If on the same site as the proposed Bowl etc., they were to put the 1 Billion pounds into developing a new town with possibly accommadation for between 10-20 thousand people, Ireland would reap by far more benefits than if the Stadium were to be built.
The biggest Crisus in Ireland isn’t the lack of a stadium, rather it’s the Crisus in Housing Supply.

Just looking at those Maps on the Luas website, seems that the actual stop/platforms will be integrated into the bridges at both Ranelagh and over the Canal.

Has anyone come across designs for the new bridge where the Luas will cross the Grand Canal or Ranelagh Rd. even. These are 2 fairly prominent places where more than a Basic design should be made.

I’d agree, a few more curves in Dublin would do no harm at all. Didn’t the architect of the Parthenon make sure that the lines of the building were slightly curved, Makes all the difference.

The front view of the building is good from the point of view that it blocks out Hawkins a little, not sure if it integrates very well with the Georgian building along side though.

The Corn exchange building could be enhanced by the addition of something along the lines of whats on top the Reichstag building in Berlin. That again would also reduce the impact of Hawkins house.

That Picture looks like the bridge could be impressive. But seeing in Renalagh, the demolition work going on at the remains of the bridge structure, I wonder are we losing some great stonework in the rush to build the new Luas.

Maybe you can take that ‘Rush’ with a pinch of salt.

“Besides “The Dead” house is in the way..”

I wonder then do the corp have secret plans.

But should this House be so important as to prevent the creation of a new street for the public?. Then again it depends on how it would turn out, it would be good if a new street were created on the Axis of the bridge with high quality buildings and an emphasis on the Pedestrian. However if it were just to be a semi-bypass with bland buildings and no community element, I’d be against it.

Is there any particular reason why Macken st can not be realigned with the proposed bridge there?

Personally I think high rise buildings should be allowed at key central points around the suburbs of Dublin, God knows west Dublin could do with a few focal points, a high rise some where in the expanse of semi-d mania would at least give people a reference point.

There’s probably more of a case for high rises beyond the canals than within them.
But certainly let it reach for the heavens in the docklands, the present plans are wimpish.

Apartment living would be ok if the apartment your living in was built to a good standard. When you can hear you neighbours taking a leak in their bathroom and other normal everyday sound can penetrate the walls with ease it’s a turn off. Also where in Europe would they build block after block of apartments with standalone inefficient Electric heating. Missing the oppetunity to have shared heating systems must add thousands to the cost of the apartment over the years.

“Floating flood Lit roof…” sounds pretty different but really is there any ammount of alterations to the present structure that can make it acceptable or even positive.

For eg. The refurbishment of O’Connell House (Q Bar) wasn’t an improvement at all IMO, possibly worse now with the drapes of black glass.

In the apatment complex I stay in in Dublin8 they only thing I’ve ever heard from any neigbour was a (music too loud) complaint that came from a neighbour via a caretaker to the landlord on on to an agitated phone call to tenant. Not the building blocks of community spirit.

But often people give a polite grunt to each while still within the cosy security gate, beyond that it’s everyone fro himself.

Pretty good Job they did ‘n all. I was fairly impressed at the time, stands the test of time also.

I think they should do something with the graveyard beside it, build on it or something. They must be the most expensive plots in the world.

The menace is still advancing on Dame St. with a vengence. Begs the question, who’s benefitting financially from this.

After so many years now of the developement boom you would have thought that design standards would have come on. But this new building isn’t alone in bad taste. The very large new apartment complex on Dorset St. isn’t worth a second glance, unfortunate considering the prominance of the street.

The ads should be obliterated immediately,
with a lick of paint and a few bulbs the
bridge would be a visual asset. I think it
gives the city more of a metropolis feel with
    the trains rumbling over head.

The idea of sending the line underground will
never happen. Just so we can Survey the
Custom House and down river from up river.
Why should the city be dressed so
    revealingly?

But on the subject of ads generally, there’s
no harm in them, ask anyone who was in East
Berlin before the wall came down, before the
ads the place was very dull altogether.
Possibly there could be more decorative ad
structures such as the tube like things that
are dotted around many cities in Europe.

It had dissappointed me also as I saw the thing take shape many weeks ago. A case of the Quays Oirish bar interior kit out going out of control.

Yes the bridge looks better than ever without all the previous bits of scaffold that’ve been holding it together for years.
While it’s great to have the extra space where the Toll Booths once were I think Iron railing could heve suited better than the heavy looking new stone work.

As for the Millenium Bridge, looks as fine as ever, Hapenny makes it look a bit deflated but it’s still a nice bit of work even if it could do with a little more love & care from the maintenance people. Also I don’t know why the didn’t integrate the boardwalk a little more into it, the board walk seems almost afraid to get close at all, unlike where if now comes right up to the H’penny.

On the bridge note, is there any further developments on the suggestion of the pedestrian bridge between Burgh/Eden Quays?

I think I will like the building.

However I wonder how much thought is put into how the building will look with its surroundings. Not only the Georges Street scheme but also the forthcoming replacement for the shabby tall corpo builing on Tara st.
Is that replacement presenlty being designed in isolation to this one today.
