I read on the Irish Times yesterday that the Macken St bridge probably won’t start ’till 2005 at the earliest, Pity!!

Whatever happened to the plans for the Iveagh markets, I drove by them the other day and they are still in a bit of a ramshackle state!!!

They also have a tower crane erected behind the buildings so looks like something is happening!!
Did anyone ever take a closer look at the side entrances to the Georges arcade, mostly closed up now and used for storage. It would be great if the whole place was opened up. (Hope that a make over wouldn’t affect the atmosphere that’s there at the moment though!!!)

I see that O’ Reilly’s Bar under Tara St Station is closing pending renovations to the station. Tenders are being sought for all the fixtures and fittings. Does this mean. I wonder, if the full redevelopment is going ahead???

A man from DCC said it would get, ‘a bit of a clean before the official opening in July’!!!

I suppose we can only be glad that they did retain the facade and that it wasn’t ‘accidently demolished’!!

I say change the law here, even if it takes a referendum, (Cost of referendum would be less than the cost of compensation to landowners and cost of delays). We need the metro ASAP at about not much more than MAdrid have paid. Let this be a test for the future!!

There are 25 trees on each side and assuming that the Luas side hasen’t been planted (I can’t remember if it has) that works out at €37,500 for all the trees at €500 a pop!!

Probably to protect passing pedestrians from bits of the stone facing which may be dropping off do you think!

Imagine the state of the streets around there after all that cheap warm beer has been consumed!!!!

I spoke to a landscaper who said €500-600 would be average for this type of tree!!!!

I agree about the cobbling in front of the Wolfe Tone monument. Its just a bit too much of an unbroken area. I like water features a lot I have to say, Unfortunately in Dublin they just seem to turn into litter bins! I like the idea of the one at the end of King St (If only someone had used a spirit level!!)

If its tied into the redelopment of the derelict Eircom/ OPW site beside the Royal Hospital it may stand a fighting chance of being built rather than being built as a stand alone project!! On that point I hope this development dosen’t detract from th views from the RH across the renovated formal gardens towards the Phoenix park!

I see that there is a planning permission sign for satellite dishes to be mounted on the roof of that old Bank of Ireland between Clerys and Ann Summers. A Bookies is due to set up shop here soon, I believe, so if you don’t think its appropriate for this location maybe an objection would be an idea?

I think the bottom section stands out because it has been covered for so long. If they clean the whole lot (or wait ’till it gets as dirty as the rest) I think it will be ok. I like the reflective part although I have to admit the transition to the undecorated part is a bit sudden!!

I remember in the original DDDA plan for IFSC there was to be a giant fountain here!!!!
Maybe its to compensate for the loss of this to the city??

Paving was relaid up to the Gresham last week so that’s why its looking so ship shape. They had it in fairly quickly too!

As the Tribune said, nobody in Government seems to turn a hair at these phenomenal costings especially when compared to similar projects abroad, maybe its the Ivory Towers Syndrome (ITS) again!!!

Just a point when you include the link to DCC planning site.
Was there a ruling from Europe recently that the €20 fee for objections was in fact illegal? Do you thing this is a good or bad thing?
