John D. Sedding (1838-91)

A noted Victorian church architect, working on new buildings and repair work, with an interest in a ‘crafted Gothic’ style. John Dando Sedding was an influential figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, many of whose leading designers studied in his offices. He himself spent six years in the office of George Edmund Street before commencing independent practice in Bristol with his brother Edmund Sedding. He was admitted FRIBA on 20 April 1874, and moved in the following year to London where he practised alone thereafter. He died on 7 April 1891. His practice was continued by Henry Wilson after his death under the title of Sedding & Wilson.
