George Ensor (1724-1803)
An architect and builder who worked in the offices of the Surveyor General in the early 1740s. He was later dismissed from his post in 1751 probably for taking bribes. In the 1760s he worked as an architect and developer in Dublin and was appointed surveyor of the works at Christ Church cathedral Dublin in 1761. By the 1790s he was obviously still carrying out building contracts for the Government, as in 1796 he was again dismissed for taking bribes.

A church with a 12th century foundation, rebuilt several times, notably in 1681. In the mid 18th-century a committee was formed to raise funds for yet another renovation of the church.

Built as the city hospital in 1774, and now an outreach campus for Queens University Belfast.
