The original castle of Ballymena was built in the early 17th century,
Now demolished, the Braidwater Mill was established in 1865 and employed generations from the town and surrounding areas.
Unusual station layout with main building lower than the line and platforms. The last major work of Berkeley Deane Wise who retired in 1906 due to ill-health.
A fine example of Wise’s work for the Belfast and Northern Counties Railway is this signal cabin on the island platform at Ballymena railway station.
Rebuilt between 1921-23. Counters an awkward site with two chamfered corner entrances. Now a branch of Dansk Bank.
Jones & Kelly were chosen as a result of an architectural competition held in 1920.
