1859 – Adam Clarke Memorial Obelisk, Portrush, Co. Antrim
Architect: William Barre

A 45 foot tall obelisk dedicated to a leading member of early Methodism, Adam Clarke, who was born in County Derry. John Wesley invited him to become a pupil at a seminary he established at Kingswood in Bristol. He went on to become an eminent scholar and theologian. The monument is sited outside the local Methodist chapel. Barre’s design is very similar, albeit on a smaller scale, to his Dawson Memorial in Monaghan.
