ParticipantDoes anydoby know where to get some information about this tunnel?
In particular, I am trying to find out if there are ventilation shafts that rise up into the park.
Any help would be appreciated..

InactiveTry the Irish Railway Record Society, Heuston Station, Dublin 8. Just don’t mention my name, I’m regarded as a trouble maker within the railway enthusiast field and they would probably refuse to talk to you if you did.

KeymasterThere are shafts but if you’re thinking of entering the tunnel via them, think again.

ParticipantNo, I won’t be entering (the light at the end of the tunnel……………)
The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland are running a trip to Mayo soon and will be travelling through the tunnel.
This brought up the idea of bursts of Steam/Smoke rising up through the bushes in the park !
I’ll probably get on my bike some evening and do some investigating.

This brought up the idea of bursts of Steam/Smoke rising up through the bushes in the park !There is a shaft 100m from the south end of Bray Head No. 4 tunnel. As the RPSI run a steam special to Enniscorthy annually, this would also give rise to a similar situation.

I’m quoting myself. That is sad! Anyway, there is a steam train trip to Greystones next Sunday. I’ve never gone to the trouble of trying to locate this shaft but as the RPSI are running the trains twice, that should give 4 opportunities to locate it.
