ParticipantI had a flick through the planning applications today, and found this:
“Haskari Properties Limited intend to apply for permisison to demolish existing 4 storey over basement hotel (The Ormond Quay Hotel) and construct a six storey over basement hotel of heights approximately 22.23m and floor area of 7351 sq.m., comprising 155 bedrooms on first to sixth floor levels, bar (140 sq.m. total public area), restaurant (143 sq.m. total public area) kitchen and adminstration at ground floor level, conference facilities (390 sq.m. total area), staff facilities and services at basement level, plus all necessary site development works, at 7-11 Upper Ormond Quay, Dublin 7 and Strand Street Little, Dublin 7.”

The Ormond Quay hotel is extremely ugly, so hopefully the proposed building will be better.

KeymasterUnfortunetly it will destroy the existing height line on the quay, all of which are very similar….

ParticipantThe height line can be broken well though, so long as the building is high quality. The Clarence hotel opposite it is much higher than the buildings either side (and probably second only to the Central Bank in that area) but it looks well.
Still, I get a feeling that the proposed building won’t be high quality.
