Monument to Henry Grattan MP (1746-1820), shipped from London in November 1875 after the sculptor John Henry Foley had died in 1874. Foley was to have been paid for the pedestal but owing to his death ‘the committee with the able assistance of one of its members, Mr William Murphy, the well known architect, had thd pedestal manufactured, in exact accordance with Mr Foley’s design, by Irish workmen, out of the best Ballinasloe limestone, which difffers but little from hard black marble’ Unveiled 6 Jan 1876.
