In May 1870, John Henry Foley’s statue of the former viceroy the Earl of Carlisle (1802-1864) was unveiled in the People’s Garden,
Monument to Henry Grattan MP (1746-1820), shipped from London in November 1875 after the sculptor John Henry Foley had died in 1874.
Eerected in 1878 in Phoenix Park in honour of the British commander Field Marshal Hugh Gough who rose to commander-in-chief of British forces in India.
Built to commemorate the “Liberator” Daniel O’Connell (1775-1847) after whom the street was renamed after independence.
