2019 – Grandstand, The Curragh Racecourse, Co. Kildare
Architect: Grimshaw Architects & Newenham Mulligan and Associates
The result of an architectural competition held in 2013/14 to replace the aging facilities at the famous racecourse. The brief was to design a new racecourse grandstand for 6000 people, within a masterplan able to accommodate a crowd flux of up to 30,000 people including all modern hospitality facilities. The vast cantilevered roof reflects the sweeping plains of the surrounding countryside but also contrasts the natural undulating forms of the Curragh, and the precision of the man-made.
