The Kevin Street campus of the Dublin Institute of Technology was a large purpose-built structure opened in 1968. From the Kevin Street frontage, the building stretched back to the next street, dominating the area. Previously there was an attractive Technical School dating from 1898 on the site. The new building had mosaic tiles between windows, glazed stairwells, and interior circulation spaces. In many ways it could have been a more successful design – the glazing pattern is now rather dated; the pavilion storey perhaps could have been treated better, infact in drawings it had more of an overhang but it was very much a building of the 1960s.
“On the ground floor there is the entrance and foyer to the assembly hall; the first floor has the actual suite of administrative offices; the second floor houses the staff rooms; the third floor has the student rooms and the cafeteria with a seating capacity of 160 is accommodated on the fourth floor.” The Irish Times, July 2, 1968, p.14 – ‘An overdue tribute to the role of technical education’, William Hamilton.

The 3.57-acre site sold for €140 million in August 2019, with planning permission granted for redevelopment in late 2020. Demolished in 2021.
