The Good Shepherd Convent in Derry, established in 1919, and was one of the infamous laundries where young women were placed and forced to work for little or no pay. The original convent was a large Victorian villa – this addition by Corr & McCormick provided a chapel and ancillary accommodations as well as a modern interpretation of a cloister connecting the buildings. The chapel was quite large with a shallow pitched room internally and lit by tall rectangular coloured glass windows. The original building remains, but this 1950s extension has been demolished to make way for housing.
