1873 – Savernake Cottage Hospital, Marlborough, Wiltshire
Architect: George Gilbert Scott
Scott’s work in the 1870s was deviating from his recognisable High Victorian Gothic, with designs fir small scale secular buildings such as St Mary’s Homes at Godstone, Hillesden Parsonage or the Cottage Hospital at Savernake of 1872. These derived from traditional domestic buildings, with tile hanging, exposed timberwork, red brick and over-hanging first floors, similar to Norman Shaw’s ‘Old English’ style. The building was constructed at a cost of £4,960, including the Porter’s Lodge.
