1858 – Jackson Library, Exeter College, Oxford
Architect: George Gilbert Scott
The College’s present library was built in Gothic-Revival style in 1857 by George Gilbert Scott. Scott rebuilt the college library on the site which had earlier been proposed for the chapel, between the quadrangle and the Bodleian Library. It is a two-storey building with a turret staircase in the angle between it and a single-storey wing running parallel to the end of the Bodleian. During the 2022/23 academic year it was extensively restored and refurbished, transforming it to meet the needs of modern students and academics while preserving and enhancing its original beauty, and renamed the Jackson Library.
