Designed by Mr J. C. Bretland, the Borough Surveyor of Belfast, and constructed by Messrs Henry of Belfast at a cost of £36,500.
The former Fire Brigade Headquarters at 96 Chichester Street were constructed 1892-94 by Borough Engineer J.C.
Demolished in the early 1970s for a modern replacement, after the area was cleared for a motorway.
Recently restored, the markets contain a working fish market and a bric-a-brac market of stalls and traders.
