I must say I found the rolling titles and the music very distracting, there seemed to be a lack of picture sources, and even buildings that are still there just flitted by – Dublin Airport for example.
What was with the concert in Ardnacrusha? And how come no serious foreign commentators ever mentioned Scotts Irish building at the Worlds Fair.
dc3ParticipantWell I hate to say it but there are two big flaws with these suggestions. Where would you move it to at the airport? and who would pay for it?
Incidentally it would not be suited as an aviation museum, – which needs big internal spaces and wide access to display aircraft, which ought to be the key element in any such museum. If you want to have a look at what makes a good display facility for aviation, have a look at the award winning superhangar at Duxford (UK) or the Kermit Weeks Fantasy of Flight complex in Florida.

dc3ParticipantThis programme series should be worth watching and at least you can turn off a bad programme, unlike bad architecture.
Perhaps they might be prepared to draw some conclusions concerning brown envelopes and the urban sprawl.
dc3ParticipantThe new book in the picture series called “Central Dublin” shows a picture of Arnotts, as it was.
dc3ParticipantYes the railings are fairly grim all right.
Dont like the new Liffey foot bridge either.
dc3ParticipantHope someone keeps an eye on the ESB site over the Christmas holidays, just in case someone rushes on in one of those public holidays, (so convenient for developers) to build Georgian houses without having full planning permisssion.
dc3ParticipantAlmost true about UK/Ireland
but double deckers are not entirely unknown in Europe, – Berlin for example uses them.
Certainly Brussels has never had them, so that theory goes downdc3ParticipantLooks more like a Belgian scene than a Belfast scene, could it be Brussels?
dc3ParticipantDoubtless the Corpo will act with the same speed as in the Archers Garage case.
(Was it not Brendan Behan that had the joke about the first anniversary of the hole.)dc3ParticipantYou can see what the Ritz exterior looked like in 1998 on the Art Deco Ireland Web Site
atdc3ParticipantThere is a fairly long list of events, lectures, walking tours etc available from the RIAI. I have a one page handout from them.
They say that they have a page on the web at http://WWW.riai.ie with info about World Archers (sorry Architecture)Day.
