The one at the top of South William St. is also gone, this area is now used by the nearby cafes as a collection point for their waste and therefore manky.

You’d do well bringing one of them home with you I think it would be a huge logistic job as they weigh a ton. I saw the contactors wrestle with them with a JCB so not sure what kind of condition they are in now.

Its baffling they must have been attracting what the DCC see as the wrong sort of people i.e. scatters and homeless.

I wonder where there are now, somewhere were they aren’t needed no doubt. Pity they didn’t remove/replace the fountain.

I think the Lansdowne Road is the correct choice.

It has to be in Dublin somewhere as its central, I can’t see Ulster rugby fans being to impressed if the stadium was in Cork. If it were built in any other central location like Athlone or Galway getting there by train is a problem.

Lansdowne’s greatest asset is its location. The atmosphere going to and from it is fantastic and it is what so many sporting tourists love about it. Walking from the centre of the city down to the ground is great the streets are alive something I couldn’t see happening out at Abbotstown.

All the money its going to cost could not recreate the Lansdowne atmosphere out at Abbotstown. It doesn’t matter what it costs its the right choice.

I walked through the city centre early on the day after Paddys Day and I agree the streets where pretty clean and so they should be. But why don’t the DCC also wash/hose down the streets, removing the stickiness etc.

I think they do this in temple bar but it should be extended to the rest of the city centre esp. on occasion such as Paddy’s day. Some continental cities do it on a nightly basis like Les Rambles in Barcelona.

I totally agree, if you compare the Jervis S. C., which to my knowledge is run by a UK management company and any other Irish shopping centre that’s over a few years old. The Jervis is constantly being spruced up, be it a repaint in the corridors or as at the moment they are adding wooden panelling to the entrance to the car park. They are constantly improving the users experience. Compare this to say Nutgrove or The Square which where leaders in shopping centre design when opened and have just got grubby and outdated.

At least public buildings can cite lack of funds for the lack of maintenance but as for commercial building it’s just greed and short sightedness by the developer/owners although there is an argument that it’ll cost them in the long run.

d_d_dallas, I’ve asked this question befor e and the only answer I can get is that the present underground interconnect (via Phoenix Park) from Heuston to Connelly is too narrow for modern rolling stock
