No way. Why should we support the retention of two tumbledown old sheds? This is an architectural website, not a U2 fans forum.

Sometimes the importance of buildings span beyond good looks……….to heitage….which is a social issue which is undoubtedly linked with architecture…

      heritage smeritage.

U2 are a pop group with a high degree of commercial success. They have been in the hanover studio for a relatively short period of time, and said they were open to an alternative local location. There ain’t no heritage preservation argument in any of that lot.

      roll on the demolition.

The Beatles were more or less a pop group and how sorry was Liverpool council when they demolished the Cavern Club……U2 were open to an alternative location, but are now objecting to the CPO….and as for ‘heritage smeritage’…..what age are you?
I would rather go see the U2 studios than some sleekly designed street furniture……. every God damn city has that, but not all of them have the studio of the biggest rock (not pop) band on the quays of their city

      oh dear.

      I’m 35.

U2 are not the Beatles, nor never will be.

Trying to write a heritage preservation argument onto a pop band’s five year old den is just pathetic. No doubt you will want the Dockers encased in perspex for future generations to marvel at too.

The building doesn’t warrant keeping, and just ’cause you like the band doesn’t mean the building is part of our cultural heritage.

oh, and is ‘Rock’ somehow more significant than “Pop”?

Oh, I’m also really glad that the corpo did such a fabulous job on that other dublin rock heritage site; the halfpenny bridge. As seen in Phil Lynott’s video for ‘Old Town’.

Surely HotPress should be awarding bursarys for this budding musical architectural heritage industry?

What a load of sacastic ranting,-can you not make a decent argument without reverting to derisive comments and personal digs

is this not a simple issue.. are the buildings in question being assessed on their architectural ‘value’ or are a (good) major rock band deciding what is worth keeping, and what is not? Heritage is important, but we should not let a group of people dictate what our heritage should be. its a small bit arrogant. keep the buildings or retain them, whatever, but judge it on merit and quality, not ego.

No way. Am sick of people holding things up… what’s wrong with an alternative site… if you ask me it’s a publicity stunt. The sooner the development goes ahead the better

I have toagree with alaister here. there is no heritage value in these properties. The overall plan for the area is more important. U2 are would do better to direct their resources to another area and perhaps rescue some worthwhile building from the wreckers ball.

Looks like U2 have just lost their appeal…

Maybe they will build something of substance and aesthetic quality now that the junk is to be demolished….and U2 can move into it straight away.
