This was tucked into the back of the property section of the Irish Times today. Seems to be a huge development (maybe bigger than the John Player development?), so I was suprised that there was not more publicity and hype about it.

Location: South Bank Road, Ringsend, Dublin 4, bounded by Sean Moore Park on the south-west, the former Irish Glass Bottle Company lands to the north-west and Sandymount Strand to the south-east. Proposed development: mixed-use scheme on 4.9-hectare site with 16 blocks comprising 93,114sq m (1 million sq ft) of floor space and 24,700sq m (265,868sq ft) of basement car-parking in five mixed-use blocks, fix residential blocks, five office blocks and one retail pavilion. The development will consist of 783 apartments (82 three-bedroom, 505 two-bedroom and 196 one-bedroom units), 21,804sq m (234,696sq ft) of office space, 2,602sq m (28,008sq ft) of retail space, 1,353sq m (14,564sq ft) of other uses (crè] Total of 995 car-parking spaces (853 basement spaces and 142 off-street spaces), provision of 1,047 bicycle spaces, landscaping and 1.16 hectares of public open space in the form of a public park, market square, public square and seafront promenade. Applicant: Fabrizia Development.
It is hard to figure out if this is included in the particular zoning of the glass factory or not, but it would seem to be the case. Therefore it is zoned Z14 “To seek the social, economic and physical development or rejuvenation of an area with mixed use of which residential and “z6′ would be the predominant uses.” Z6 is indicated as “To provide for the creation and protection of enterprise and facilitate opportunities for employment creation.” http://www.dublincity.ie/shaping_the_city/future_planning/development_plan/Maps/mapfset.pdf

This has been around a long time phil, Its one of the big set pieces (and drivers) of the new development of Poolbeg. Its been in planning for a while but I think it was withdrawn until the DCC has created a masterplan for the area. I agree the scale is impressive.

Thanks Stephen. I had heard of general plans for the area, but I was just suprised at how little attention it was given in the press.

Think it was in one of the papers last week. Once one paper covers it that’s basically that. Nobody else will (or at least shouldn’t) cover it afterwards unless they have a new angle.

That probably explains it. Thanks Jdivision. I am sure there will be more about it if it gets appealed or when it is underway etc.
I see the original version of this plan has been discussed here before:

Thanks,
Phil

Here are more details of this development. The architects are O’Mahony Pike, and it was granted permission earlier this month, after first seeking planning in 2004.
