ParticipantHi folks, as a graphic designer with a good amount of 3d experience i’m embarking on creating an outline for the design of my new house.
I’ll probably start the project in my 3d app and work backwards possibly going as far as floorplans and elevations. It will be then passed on to a qualified architect for the appropriate consultation and workup etc.
What i’d really like, to get me started, are current Irish building guidelines regarding such information as exterior/interior/partition wall thickness, doorway widths, standard ceiling heights etc etc. Basically just so I can at least get my scaling correct in the 3d model.
I have a bit of experience creating 3d models/renders from architectural drawings so I have an idea what’s entailed.
Does any such document exist?
All help appreciated.
Cheers,
Grif -

ParticipantA good book to get would be HomeBond’s House Building Manual, however it generally pays to get an architect/exprienced designer involved at an early stage and the pair of you work together

ParticipantTake a look at the building standards/technical guidance documents on the Dept of the Environment’s website:

ParticipantWell, ye know, if i said i was embarking on creating complete designs for my house I would say you have a case. But, the truth of the matter is that i’m designing AN OUTLINE / artistic impression of my house based on ideas i have been collecting over the years. Not once did I lay claim to having the knowledge or qualifications of an architect. With this in mind I would like to at least be accurate with the design in terms of wall thickness….room sizes…ceiling heights, roof inclines, standard window/door widths etc.
So far what I have to work with are lots of final floor plans and elevations from other development that i will use as guidelines, I was hoping for some online resource that I could use as a reference. Jackscouts suggestion is also good.
In relation to having and architect on board from an early stage, I do, but this early stage does not warrant his involvement, although, he is aware of my ideas in relation to materials and sources and has helped in making certain decisions relating to such.
So why the animosity?
