Cultra is part of the greater Belfast area and originally a stop on the Belfast, Hollywood and Bangor Railway. The BH&BR crossed the land of some wealthy landowners,
Rebuilt by Chief Engineer of the GNR William Hemingway Mills in 1897 to replace the earlier Ulster Railway building of 1839.
Originally opened in 1845 for the Ulster Railway Company, but rebuilt in the Great Northern Railway house-style in the late 1890s.
Constructed for the Church of Ireland, and built in several stages. Never completed however as the fine tower and spire was abandoned.
Former home of the Belfast Boat Club, which was deemed state of the art in its day was opened on the 12th September 1897 was blown up in ‘the troubles’
The existing houses was extended in 1897-98 by Samuel P. Close for John Stewart Clarke.
Premiated entry in competition for new city hall for Belfast. The design by Sir Brumwell Thomas was selected and completed in 1906.
Fine classically designed bank branch on the main thoroughfare. Once surrounded by buildings of equal merit, all now gone.
Still in use as a bank today, but now part of Dansk Bank after a series of mergers and takeovers.
