St. Laurence Gate is a well preserved example of a 13th Century Barbican. Named after the ancient priory of St. Laurence which stood outside the Gate on the site of the Cord Cemetery.

Now a freestanding tower near the river Iller, the Illertor was once a gateway into the Aldstadt through the city walls.
This is the third gate on this site in the town walls and was completed in 1777.
