Unfinished, the Augustinian church should have received a spire, a stumpy tower to the right of the main façade was all that was completed.
Construction began in 1874 to the designs by John Stirling Butler, was completed in 1876,
Killarney Franciscan church was opened in 1867, the friary in 1879 and in 1902 this became the Novitiate House of the Irish Province and was so for many decades.
